Buy breds and then in a year feed those calves. At that point you will know whether you still want to pursue this. If not, sell the calves. If corn is $5, sell the calves, run the cows through winter, rinse and repeat.

We feed our own calves based on mainly corn price. Even when corn was $7 we fed some, definitely shouldn't have, but that side of things is in our blood haha.
