Ea. Washington | Read in a construction engineering magazine a few years ago why the metric system went south in the US. It all had to do with the cost of rebar and structural steel. In order to meet already established structural standards all steel would have to be the next bigger size in metric in order to meet or exceed the established standards and the cost nation wide would have been in the billions. No engineer wanted to put his stamp on something that would not meet standards and nobody wanted to add the extra expense. Also would have to retool all steel mills and they weren't too excited about it. Dollars talk and if you are not smart enough to deal with it go do something else. | |
