west central wisconsin | When you say the 643 leaves stalks pretty tall.......If you have the speed of the head set correctly, and if you lower the head reasonably close to the ground, every single stalk should only be 15 inches tall or so and crimped over. I watched a neighbor combine corn yesterday, he has a great big combine with a 6 row head driving really fast, and the stalks were still standing when he got done. Having header speed match ground speed is the right place to start, then as was mentioned, I would buy a stalk shredder or possibly a bat wing mower if you have other mowing tasks, but the shredder will do the best job on the stalks , IMO. | |
