Subject: Working corn stalks on a budget

We combine 180 bu corn with 643 head and it leaves the stalks pretty tall. The JD 331 disk just rolls on the BT corn stalks and doesn't do anything. 1600 chisel plow doesn't have much clearance. I have a DMI 530B disk ripper but it leaves the groundrather boggy in the spring. Plus it takes forever.

Is there anything I could do to my corn head to reduce the amount of standing stalks? Would a disk chisel be more up my alley? Looking for under $15, 000 investment and have 300 hp to pull. Ground needs fall tillage around here. Should I also find a cheap stalk shredder/chopper?
