We were very surprised to look out the kitchen window this morning and see 8 turkeys scratching their way thru the front yard.  Have lived within 1/4 mile of this spot nearly my whole life, and have never seen turkeys here.  We have had a few deer here around home, but not many, and used to have lots of pheasants.  We're in a very open, gently rolling area, no timber for cover......as the crow (turkey??) flies, it's probably 4-5 miles to timber of any consequence.  The one tom was really large, would have made a shooter pretty happy, I think.

You may think they are kind'da cool to see and look at now - give them a couple yrs when the flock grows and they start plucking the corn, beans and grain out of your freshly planted fields.
We have a couple different flocks of more then a dozen each .. .  . they are pests.
I'm kind of supprised they aren't hunted more heavily like deer ~
