Windom, MN | The landlord has all the leverage. This is the way it has always been. When commodity prices were bad, cash rent was the way to go. Now that stuff is up there, they want the grain. I've heard it is common here for the landlord to get 35% of the crop, and not pay any inputs. Heard some are getting more like 40% now too.
Just be glad he didn't ask you to custom farm it, I know a land owner around here who told me that he gets all of his land custom farmed for $80 and acre. Don't know how a guy could make money on that. | |
