The short answer is yes, you are wrong.

My mom was usually over 30,000 miles per year when we were kids, probably closer to 40k for a few years.

12,000 miles per year would have barely been enough for us kids when we got our licenses.

With your youngest at 11, your wife’s annual mileage is probably about near it’s peak. She’s doing pretty good keeping the mileage down considering how far from town you live. Expecting less than 12,000 per year was ridiculous.

I've never said anything to my wife about my Mom, but I know she never put more than 10000 a year on a car and Dad put a lot of those miles on, but they grew up in the depression and knew how to get by.
