NW IL, Mercer County | I started farming in 2008 and worked off farm full time til 2013. My dad decided it was time to slow down and take a step back so I stepped in full time taking over a few acres each year. 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012 my farming survived off an insurance check so not the best of starts. Its been a little tough taking over my Dads acres each year and trying to purchase equipment as needed as crop prices have declined. Luckily the last 3 crops have been good so I produced my way to a small profit.
I guess if it was easy everyone would do it. I dont have a large fortune to lose yet! | |
