sw ontario
Versatile ,true too an extent ,the "older" guys at the time just quit buying but most had a son farming and they had co-signed for that debt so they were hurting pretty badDifference then was 3 big strikes against you ,interest rates doubling, machinery/land equity crashing and commoditie prices weak with so/so crops in '83/'84.......like Clay says of course there was the always cash rich farmers collecting big interest and would not spend any of it ,those farms are gone today and heirs have spet the money....... bad then was like hogs from '08-11 around 66% of producers quit ....... farmin ain't fun with out money.... too keep things in perspective if you watched the movie " Midnight in Paris " they say the Golden yrs. was 20-30yrs. before now as in our minds that seemed like a better place to be , so many guys were a yr. away from surviving/making it but just got tired and gave up
