Subject: RE: Sleep and dementia

That study is pretty alarming as I do have trouble staying asleep. I have no trouble falling asleep, my wife says I'm usually out within a few minutes. But staying asleep until morning has been a problem for several years.

A couple things that have helped me are advil pm and switching beds in the middle of the night. I take 1 advil pm (not 2) a couple nights a week. With that I can sleep a solid 7-8 hours and not feel groggy the following morning. The other thing that has helped is switching beds in the middle of the night. If I wake up between 1 and 4 I will go to the spare bed after going to the bathroom. This allows me to toss and turn for several minutes without worrying about disturbing my wife's sleep. I almost always eventually go back to sleep in the spare bed.

Good sleep is important as this study points out and is one thing we all take for granted until it begins to elude us.
