The advantage to taking PP when it's too dry is that it doesn't hurt your APH and then the very next crop is eligible for full coverage. That's kind of a big deal in fallow country. So probably if you're in an area like us where say, continuous wheat is a non insurable practice...................then PP for being too dry is a real deal. We had a lot of acres last year PP'd that were supposed to be planted to corn or milo. They are currently fully insured to growing wheat right now. If we had grown corn or milo last year on those acres..............it would have been a zero yield............and sitting fallow now.
