KS | We did foster care for 13 years and had 30+ kids through our home. We tried to be good team players with the system. Tried to not say no too many times for kids to come in to our home. We did respite for neighboring foster parents too. The hardest part for us was the workers as most were on some kind of power trip with little experience in parenting except classroom projects. Especially the “Independent Living” workers. They undid every good thing we had tried to accomplish with the kids aging out at 18 yo. They promised apartments, cars and best of all, no pesky rules, as you were “free” from the system. Except the workers changed again then again then again as noted earlier, and I don’t think they could pick the kids out of a lineup.
It is a calling and I treated it that way. That is what got us through the years. We did have some real life changing successes. | |
