| We are a foster family and have adopted one out of foster care. It is one of the most excruciating and fulfilling thing you could ever do. If you only want short term, you better plan for respite. Outside of respite care, we have had some for a week and some for 2.5 years. There is no rhyme or reason to when they come and when they go. You as a foster parent have the least say in anything. You should be prepared for heartache and hurts. But, you will also see so much love. The courts, Guardian Ad Litem, and parents have all the power and say in it. As a foster home you are there to provide structure, care, love, support. Know exactly what age, gender, issues, etc you are wiling to work with and stick to that only. If you can get licensed through a religious organization, I suggest that. They can help screen the calls.
I would say go for it. But, to be licensed costs a lot of money and time. You are in a great place with none of your own kids in the home. I would say pray, pray, pray, and then pray about it. Then go for it if God leads you in that way. | |
