Yup, an older Remington 870, Mossberg 500, Winchester 1200, etc with screw in chokes and a longer barrel is not a lot more than you'd probably pay for a different barrel for yours.

Longer barrels are generally a smoother swing, but harder to change direction with when pigeons do their midair evasive actions. 26-28" is a good all around barrel length.

Most fun shooting I have is pounding on the side of the old silo and waiting for pigeons to go flying out the opening for the blower. Barn cats become trained retrievers pretty quickly if you do it fairly often.
