I'm interrupting your post to mean you have a improved cylinder barrel, which offers more spread of pattern, but less concentration of shot and therefore less knock down power on pigeons.
A modified or a full choke would be better at longer distance. 
A number 4 or 5 in a long brass shell would be better on pigeons.....they're pretty hard to kill.
