Subject: RE: Fire Fighting Question - Foam or CAFs in wildland applications

South Western Ontario, Canada
Had a caf unit on the back of a 1 ton Ford crew cab single wheel......it wasn't loaded with water until it got on scene (over weight). One heavy unit, always stuck pig. It never left the hard surface unless we knew there was a tractor close or one of the three guys with 3/4 ton 4x4 diesels were on scene (aka the farmer tow trucks).

Honestly I can't remember the number of times we pulled that pig around...

We talked about putting it on a trailer....but was told no because not everyone could drive and handle pulling a trailer (mixture or town and rural people but it was poor excuse to me)

After I left, I believe they bought a Ford 550 4x4 dually with good rubber and they haven't been stuck in awhile.

Personally I preferred foam unit. Simpler to fix and diagnos when it hits the fan..
