Subject: RE: Replacement for pellets in shell corn/pellet diet?

Up until 2020,I had been raising holstein steers. I would buy salebarn baby calves, raise them, and ship them as fats. 60 to 80 per year. I finished them on whole shell corn and pellets from 300 lbs.+.. In 2019 I had a couple gravity boxes of soybeans, and a thin checkbook, so I finished the last bunch with shell corn, raw soybeans (to make 11 1/5% protein mix), a Purina salt &mineral mix, and a rumensin pellet. I thought they finished respectable in time and cost of gain, but 2019 my feed yard was a muddy mess that I know cost a lot of time to get them to finish. Because of the mud, I don't know if I can recommend raw soybeans, but maybe it would be worth an experiment on your part.
