Subject: RE: denying surveyor access in Illinois

SE Nebraska, Near Misery and Cans Ass!

IlliniFarmr - 2/19/2021 10:43 I have an outside municipality that wants to take my farm through eminent domain. I've found out that eminent domain has a lot more teeth than it used to, but when it goes to court I'm confident I will win, just be poorer. They want to send surveyors out to survey my property which isn't for sale. Is there any way to legally keep them out? I have no issue with the surveyors, they are just doing their job, but it looks to me like in Illinois you have to just let them do what they want on your property even if it is against your best interest. I'd be curious if anyone else has had a situation like this and what they found out. I'm sorry I have to be vague about the situation.

Figure out what the farm is worth, what it would cost you to relocate including hiring it done and the inconvenience. and what their legal expenses would be. Then add 10 to 25% depending on the gross amount and I bet they take it and you come out ahead instead of poorer. BTDT.
