Faunsdale, AL
The PEX will be fine. Shower valves, washing machine stop cocks and other faucets maybe not so much.

In 1989 polybutalene ???? pipe was still in use. Was only a few years later there was a class action lawsuit about it and it was discontinued and replaced by PEX. Anyway, my house built over a crawl space was plumbed with it and we moved in in December and had an immediate cold snap that froze all the pipes. Everything survived but I had to step up my game to thaw them out. I had been used to using a propane torch on copper or steel! Used pump up sprayer with hot water instead.

After I heard about the class action lawsuit, I called the plumber who installed the polybutalene and he reassured me that the problem was shoddy workmanship making connections. Apparently he was correct since I’ve never had any trouble with the stuff he installed. When I had them come back and do some more work a few years later they joined PEX onto the old poly and went on with that.
