North Central OH | Engine based on your description might concern me, did it have poor care? Don't know why you would have lots on blow by at those hours. Hows the sheet metal on the machine, wearing holes anywhere?
We are in similar place 2001 2388 about the same hours, hydro is in better shape. Probably due for rasp bars again, had new rotor when we got it, probably going to rebuild but wondering how lone before it need something major like the pto. Think the hydro was done before we got it now that I think about it. No doubt you will have more into than its worth but still might be better than a new to you one.
As far as upgrades 2588, 6088 are pretty much the same machine, not sure what the number changed to after 6088. 2588 is the last that used the same heads. I looked on tractor house at 2588's for the fun of it and decided I wouldn't gain anything trading to what was out there.
