Subject: Re: Computers, past and present

East Kansas, DeSoto
Where I worked they ask me to build a computer room and it had to be on a wood floor spaced so high, temperature controlled and air conditioned and all that stuff. A punch card computer. The company used it for a period of time and the company sold and so a little laterI had a buyer for it for around 8 to 10 thousand and they laughed at me saying it was on the depreciation books for more than that. A few months later they came to me and ask me to find a charity that would take it. All refused and so they were getting a little desperate and I joking told them I would give you a dollar for it. They said get it out of here Saturday. Called my son who had a big enough garage to put it in and I told him I was giving it to him. He knew a guy in St Louis Missouri buying them for the gold in the contacts so a few 3/4 ton pickup loads he had a computer and on Monday morning I offered to pay the one dollar and they said forget it. Times change fast. Gifford
