Seems like the story of that photo goes something like this...

It started as a shot of a nuclear submarine's control panel from the 1950s or 1960s, then someone used gallons and gallons of Photoshop to add the teletype and some other stuff. Maybe the guy, too. I've seen the original but can't remember all the differences.
