Subject: RE: punch cards?

Crawford County, Robinson, Illinois

Around 1963, when I was at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, they vacated the classrooms where I had attended my early history classes, and installed a punchcard computer that took over the entire building.  I recall walking through and seeing lots of card sorters.  I'm sure my present computer has multiples of power larger than that large computer.

During the 1980's, before the internet, I accessed message boards at universities with a 300 baud modem to communicate.  One board at St Louis was dedicated to farm information, could use it free if you answered questions about your farm business and new products.

Almost all of them had a question when you logged on that asked what kind of a computer you were using, press return if Cray.  I thought it was amusing that the default computer was Cray, and wondered how many people were accessing the site using a supercomputer that was liquid cooled.
