As much as it could widen/better pollination, it could also cause poorer pollination too (and a long list of other negatives). I think its chalked up usually to an "easy test" that really isn't very accurate. I think there is alot more to be gained by focusing on doing 1 hybrid really well in all aspects vs compromising on 2 (unless we are talking multi hybrid planting)(or doing what dobson is doing)
