S Illinois | Don’t think your map is showing what you think it is showing. Are you sure thats soil holding capacity and not the average amount of soil moisture available(higher rainfall in the eastern half of Iowa) on what looks like Sept 1. No one in any capacity would assume that the south central part of Iowa has more water holding capacity than the loess hills or the 6ft deep black topsoil of north central Iowa.
