scmn | Upgrading all buildings to 4/5 wire service will be more beneficial for reducing stray voltage than worrying about the placement of the hydrant that livestock will not contact. The vast majority of the stray voltage issues are a result of the NEC allowing multiple N-G bonds on properties due to treating multiple buildings on a location as individual services and feeding them from the same supply. The multiple N-G bonds at various locations in the yard result in the voltage differentials between the ground rods since the vast majority of services are not balanced (Neutral amps=0, while Phase A amps = Phase B amps); the voltage drop on the neutral back to the main service elevates the building ground rod above the service ground rod so some of the current flows thru the earth.
825/4
Edit to add:
We have a similar situation and will be eliminating a well pit and need to keep a hydrant, ours will be near the end of the guy wire by the service entrance.
