Do you worry about the covers just coming up being too competitive for the corn? Do you think you will have weeds coming on with the lack of canopy?
I’m convinced we need to be planting in strips between established covercrops.


Where the corn was only a foot tall when I seeded it, I guess maybe that is something of a risk. Had two planting dates 4 days apart. Not worried at all in the bigger stuff.

As for weeds, this is a really low weed pressure patch. Might not be after this experiment :) I wouldn't dare do this in some of the areas where I think buttonweed seed is a significant portion of the soil OM in a loss on ignition test

I think you are on the right track with planting in strips in a perennial, but there I really fear a wet year. Might shine enough more in a wet year to average out though.
