Whenever govt becomes involved there are always unintended consequences, no matter what the program. I did not sell my 2019 crop, I will take the check but it seems stupid to me the guy that did a good job with their marketing gets penalized. As long as there is govt involvement, which there will be until there is no way to print or borrow any money, our farming decisions will be influenced by the what the program is at the time. Our family is trying to mess with some organic and are willing to take the risk on a few farms at our expense to find a program that works. We are even having a hard time doing that because we have to take the crop ins, if our current soybean experiment doesn’t work I want to leave them uninsured so they can be disked up if too many weed problems but can’t.
