Subject: RE: Pressure tank in well

Kingston,Mi
All of the livestock water systems I designed and that were installed had a small (6 by 6 ft. insulated building) housing the controls, pressure tank, panel. fencer and anti-siphon backflow preventer. The reduced pressure anti-siphon backflow preventer is required by code for all water systems that have outdoor hydrants in Michigan, so the small, insulated building with minimal heat (generally just a light bulb or a 1500 watt milk house heater on a thermostat) made it easy to service..

At her other farm, she has a 4ft. square by 2 ft. tall "insulated dog house" heated by a light bulb covering the shallow well jet pump and a 2 gallon pressure tank. The dog house structure tilts back to service the pump and light. This setup provided water for about 10 to 20 head of beef cattle. We had to break the ice daily in the 200 gallon tank and once a week break up the rim of ice that formed around the tank and shovel the broken ice out.
