Our kitchen is directly above the hot water heater so it isn't plumbed into the recirculating pump but all the bathrooms are.  The pump sits right next to the hot water heater in the basement. I put it on a programmable outlet so that it only runs for about 4 hours in the morning and 4 hours in the afternoon.
