| The line I used to use was - well . . . the bear would have caught me . . . but I had traction and he didn't.
The truck was still way too far away - I'm guessing maybe a hundred yards. Luckily, the school bus was a visible yellow, and you know what one sounds like when the driver hits the brakes hard on a very bad washboard. It was loud, even at that distance. It just seemed to change the focus of the bear. Kind of like when a cat focusses on something - it can get run over and not even see the truck coming. That was the expression change I was sure I saw in that bear.
No gun in the truck. This was late fall, and we were in McKinley Park. | |
