Eastern Washington | There was a post earlier about unplugging a grain bin. I had a few questions, and didnt want to hijack that thread. So, I like the idea of cutting a hole most of the way around, and pushing a pipe further into the bin, and either putting a vacuum on it, or putting an auger into it to pull out the grain. So, for my questions:
Do you worry a bin with unzip if you cut a hole into it? Do you reinforce before cutting? Add a cable around the bin, near the level you are cutting? Or just cut it?
Do you cut with a torch, plasma cutter, sawsall or ??? Does it matter how you cut it? Do you worry about a fire in the bin when you cut it?
Once you get it mostly empty, of grain, if there is grain suspended in the bin (cavity empty below) how do you get it knocked down safely? I know bins can be dangerous, and I want to be safe.
Anything else to consider? After harvest I may be helping my neighbor who has an issue with a 20,000ish bushel bin (with wheat) and was wanting to do it safely.
