SC IL | The size and expansion of the kernel is somewhat specific to the hybrid. For theater use they want a big fluffy high expansive popcorn. For say kettle corn or Carmel corn you would want a tighter mushroom type corn so it doesn't break apart in the process of making it. All ours is grown under contract and has to meet certain guidelines and yes they check every load for expansion lots of popcorn samples when you haul it into the plant. The lowest quality popcorn goes into microwave bags the cleanings usually go for livestock feed. | |
