If one is trying to compare conventional corn (no bt, no stack, no nothing) performance vs "stacked" variety of the SAME corn, is it going to be a problem to plant them side-by-side? If one takes a 24r planter & puts 1 hopper to conventional and the other to stacked, you end up with 24r of one & 24r of the other.

My question is.....Will cross-pollination influence the yield outcome? I realize most of the Bt event is directed to "below ground" protection & by pollination time it may be immaterial. Damage or not is done by then. But...seed companies often advertise their stacked corns can outyield conventionals with no pests present. So, will cross-pollination influence the final yield check of the 2 corns side-by-side?

Thanks

I think if you split the planter you might not get enough insect pressure in your conventional to see a difference. Seed companies saying stacked hybrids out perform conventional in no pest environments are full of it. Insect traits are yield protectors not yield enhancers. Also, traited hybrids take more nitrogen since they are producing extra proteins.
