I talked to a breeder on a plane trip. He stated that traits are for environmental issues and every trait usually takes top yield off the hybrid. His point was that our neighbors that we rip for their “Southern equipment” allow guys in the north to push conventional. Insect flights are way down in size because the south growing traits keeps reproduction down. So I came away from conversation as many of us in the north can talk smart about growing conventionals but as this idea moves south we will be in trouble some day fighting Mother Nature’s gifts.
