Yes I am calving out homeraised heifers that are retained in my herd. Disposition is a trait we value highly, we select heifers first on structure and design, but if we see one acting flighty she gets cut out. Same with bulls, if we go to sale and a bull is dodging you and trying to hide from you in the pen, he doesn’t come home with us.

I think some guys are mistaking agressive mothers with cows that beat the calf. A cow that beats the calf is shoving him into the fences or panels, and won’t allow him to get up, if he tries they ram him again. They will do this until a calf will no longer try to get up, hard for him to get the first milk without your intervention.
