sw mn
Been feeding a bunch of them in several different spots. Go thru 5-6 5 gallon pails of corn every 2-3 days. Has to be 25-50 or more birds at each place. Several groups of partridge. They fly up from the evergreen and cedar thickets as soon as you dump the corn out and start to drive away, eat quick and back to the cover. The coyotes have been kept in check also because they learn quick where the food is also. Just get sick of all the preaching from pheasants forever that we need more crp. Crp dont do a bit of good in the winter when there isnt more than a few blades of grass sticking out of the snow. Also here them say they dont need to be fed cause they can find it in the fields. Next time im talking to one of them and they bring this up im gonna bet them that they cant go out in a field and find a cup of corn in a hour. And oh, i might fire a shot over your head occasionally to remind you of a hawk that has its sights set on you! To get the bird population they want they need year round habbitat, a good food source for winter and predator control in these areas. Pasture ground provides better nesting and chick raising than the crp around here.
