I remember my dad telling me about a clock they had when he was a kid. They had to set a small vial of kerosene in it next to the works to keep it running. The theory was the fumes from the evaporating kerosene kept the bearings lubricated enough so the clock would run.


My grandma did the same thing...... I was at her house when I was 5 or 6 and she refilled the bottle.

I was fortunate enough to end up with the mantel clock. Was delighted to see the bottle still in the case!
