Subject: This is what you need.

I have a $400 fluke meter at work, but I bought one of these to keep at the farm and I love it. Its listed on this Napa sight for $180 but I bought mine on the tool sale for 120. It will do all your basic voltage and resistance. The best part is the open clamp to read amperage, works awesome to check load on an electric motor or output from an alternator. Buy one and have someone give you a quick crash course. You will be amazed at the small problems you can figure out if you have one and know how to use it.
Also fwiw my dad has bought several of the cheap $20 voltmeters over the years, none lasted very long or seemed very accurate.
Edit: might double check part numbers, mine will do AC and DC amps and you do need both.
