I agree. 750# feeder it is not unusual at all to shrink a lot the first night. Bawling neighbors, water tastes different, crowded in a pen. That makes that animal weigh more like 600#. That is a lot to make up for in price. Buyers are going to steal him.


Feeder calves I much prefer morning of, and get them to the ring. Last year was 80 mile haul and they shrunk 2%. Looked good going through, and less potential for problems. Buyers seem to like "straight off the truck" here too. Less time to spend mixing with other cattle and picking up bugs.
