When i take fat steers to the salebarn i have always taken them in the morning of the sale. I figured they might as well have a belly full when they are sold. Taking them in the night before is an option, but has anyone compared shrink on night before vs morning of the sale? Night before would work better for my schedule because i work 3rd shift so by the time i get home do chores load steers and drive an hour to the barn the sale is started. Jist curious is all. Thanks

If you move the fats to a very high roughage diet (read decent but not hot hay) you can plug them up a bit.
Then they don't dump as much and your shrink will be less.

I did that and the liner only had a couple shovel fulls of crap - - - so it worked (I was selling direct to the finishing feed lot after a 225 mile haul weighing off truck).
