NE Oregon | A few years back I asked my uncle (former vet turned full time rancher) about AI heifers. His advice was, if you pay more money for the experienced breeder as opposed to the discount guy, they will make you money in conception rates. I would also be worried about having low conception rates doing it myself in the beginning. Other thing to consider, time is time is time. And can the time you spend learning AI, and then doing it yourself, make you more money than using that time in some other fashion. Everything we do is at a cost of what we aren’t doing with that time.
When factoring the risk of lower conception rates, and the opportunity cost of what you aren’t doing while AIing, it may not pay out.
