Northeast Iowa
You will improve year to year even if you only breed one or two groups. It won't be dramatic improvement. That comes during your training class between Day 1 and the final day. You will refine your technique. It won't take thousands of procedures to get good at it. You'll be much better on your last animal of the day. We like to put one guy at the tank getting semen thawed and guns ready. Two people do the breeding and switch off. Fatigue is less likely that way and semen thaw time and handling are more consistent.

When you get semen placed, you'll hold the gun in position and withdraw your other arm. The veteran will then reach in with an arm to see if your position is good. They rarely schedule the class the day before you're ready to do your own cows. A mentor and a reminder are good to have.
