My 2 cents.....
Go to school and learn it, you will never regret it. I went to a three day Select Sires school in the 80's. It took about 30 services on my own cows before I felt comfortable doing it, after fifty I felt confident. I was doing around 300 per year up until the Jerseys left in 2000, since then have done a few twenty head beef herds and a few single family cows, from 600# jerseys to 1600# beef, all the same to me. Was close to 72% first service success rate, lifetime. One thing not mentioned, if you do more than ten per hour your arm gets tired, twenty and you are ready for a break. Once you get the hang of it, you don't forget or get rusty. Once you learn, don't advertise the fact too loudly, your skill will be in high demand at a time when you don't want to supply.
