I believe that taking medications is our choice and I am appalled at how many people blame and sue the drug companies when millions of people want and need a very strong, short term pain killer. Misuse it the users fault, not the fault of the Dr or PA or the Pharmaceutical company. My son is a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine in Michigan and he does a lot of manipulations that really help some people but some, in fact most people want to abuse their body and then want a pill to fix it.

We really need to blame the ones that misuse medications and the Doctors who may be dishonest. but most doctors, PAs and nurses are wonderful and caring and they should not be sued for people's poor choices.

What would you do if the abuser is a 80 year old grandmother/ farm wife, that raised 8 children, and is involved in many church activities?

The choice to use or abuse drugs is that of the user. In most cases it is not administered secretly or added to a drink against the users will. MY Mother had a lot of prescription drugs and she was as you described. There were not really warnings on the world wide net but warnings were written and most likely not read or if read, they were not respected by the user. Prescription drugs in the 50s, 60s, and seventies most likely had directions and warnings that people that chose to use them really knew that they were misusing them.

I can assure you that the Pharmaceutical companies will not pay the cost, the other people who need the drugs will pay the cost. They will simply add it to the bill of those in need.
