Subject: RE: Angus calves from our Dairy

I was at a sale yesterday talking to an Amish dairyman asking if he could make money finishing out his own Holsteins. Probably had 50 cows or so. Told him that me paying $20 for 75% of the calves ran through the ring wasn’t a big money maker for me. Said he was looking to make money however he could to stay afloat. I told him breed them all Angus as the cheapest cross yesterday went for $120 while he could have bought heifers back for the $10-30. I tried to explain that it was like printing franklins every time he traded a cross calf in for a heifer out of the barn but he was going to breed them all Holstein so he could keep heifers back as the ship sinks.
