Dad and I had that and I’m not sure we appreciated it enough.
Now he’s 71 and I’m 44. The last couple years I noticed he was slipping a little bit but didn’t say anything. This fall he was diagnosed with cancer. He’s taking treatments and doing well but...
He WAS going to run the combine all fall and that wasn’t open for discussion. Probably gave up a few bushels due to him being a little preoccupied and that’s ok. When it came time to start making plans for next year I asked if he had any plans I should know about. He replied that he was going to “farm until they tell me I’m dead”. He, however, hasn’t done any shop work this winter and only a little parts running, just hasn’t felt like it. Sometimes that frustrates me, I have a full time job and a young family so time is at a premium. You know what? I get over it, if it helps him stay positive and gives him something to look forward to so much the better.
So I guess what I’m saying is enjoy, it wont last forever and sometime in the not so distant future you will long for those days.
