all over Iowa

Beefbiz is waiting for the Bears game to start!

Both Purdue and U of Illinois did some trials on high grain rations for cows. The trick is to feed enough grain so that you flip their rumen microbe population into a starch digesting environment. As I recall, they fed something like 3# hay, 2# of supplement, and 10# of corn. The idea is to provide the amount of calories and protein that they need everyday, in a more concentrated package. Obviously with this ration so you need very good fences. You will have to convert them to this ration slowly over time.
