How much ground, shelled corn can I put in a cow ration to replace hay safely? Currently they get 2.5# corn, 1.5# ground oats, mineral, a dab of sbm & hay. The mineral has Bovatec in it, is that as good as Rumensin on a higher corn diet? Here on a dm basis, it's cheaper to feed shelled corn than hay. (I'm short of hay & it's expensive). Cows condition is on thin side to good. It's not feasible to split herd

As always some good advise in the responses and some terrible ones.

Cows can eat grain contrary to what some believe on this site. Also cows can't eat 1# of rumensin.
