So at one time I though the guys in irrigation country would use a gas motor to start the water pump and switht it to single phase electric for the run time

wonder if that would work for some of the power

diesel engine, auto tranny, for the wet augers



Good morning Carl -

There is a local factory that used to build machines for running irrigation pumps. It was pto powered. You would get a great big single phase motor spinning with the tractor PTO, and once up to speed, you would throw a switch, and it would start running on the single phase electric. Then you could unhook the tractor and leave it. The state conservation folks had lots of them for water pumping in rural areas with no three phase close.
